French Rustic Antique Cupboard

Very attractive French cupboard from the turn of the century. It is sold in its original burgundy brown paint. There is a very interesting plate on the front which reads:

”Puaud Gustave, Garde Champetre, Force a la Loi, Saint Juire, Commune, Vendee” showing that this cupboard once belonged to the Guard of the Countryside of St Juire, a small village in the Vendee region. These guards’ role was to tackle poachers on behalf of the local maire.

There are two internal shelves, and the handle has been replaced at some point. Today, this lovely piece would look good in the kitchen or even the bathroom.

It is in good vintage condition, despite some areas showing historic woodworm, which have been treated as a precaution.
